When people ask me about the City of Syracuse, more often than not my response begins with "Never underestimate Syracuse and here is why;.___________"
We all can fill in that blank with different reasons why Syracuse is a place to be loved.
This city of ours has a heartbeat that we all find unmistakable. It is a sense of Central New York civic pride that runs through our veins. We are not perfect, and we have our challenges ahead, but what sets us all apart is the fact that Syracuse does not give up.
Please join me in spreading our hope and optimism for Syracuse and our region, I promise you a fun and uplifting journey.
I was born in Eastwood in 1974 about two blocks from where I now live with my husband of 23 years. I have deep roots in this city, and I believe that our greatest asset is our diversity. The fact that we share our neighborhoods with multi-generational families as well as families that have only been here for a few months...it gives me hope each day. Syracuse has always been a home to people from all over the world, sharing our cultures and our love. There is tremendous strength where we overlap.
Politics may be the ugliest game on earth, but it does not have to be. This city has shown time and time again that we are stronger when we all work together. A vast number of people in Syracuse do not identify with any political party. While I am a Democrat, I believe that the vision we have for Syracuse has to be shaped by all voices being heard. If we run out of room at the table, we need to get resourceful and build a bigger table.
Getting involved in this city can mean so many different things. It's just a a matter of finding your passion and then finding an outlet to put your passion to work. Syracuse is home to countless non-profit organizations, big and small. All of them are constantly looking for help. I am happy to work to find citizens a place to volunteer their time and energy. Even an hour a week can make the world of difference to a small organization. Licking envelopes and sticking stamps still happens!
